MUSIC BOX ESTABLISHES A CHILD'S LIFETIME LOVE OF MUSIC.

Through Music Box, children are given the chance to develop their natural musical abilities and to explore the world creatively through their voices, bodies and minds. Vocal exploration and matching pitch, singing, playing simple percussion instruments, exploring basic rhythms, and developing coordination and balance through movement are all part of the musical discovery of Music Box. A child who experiences Music Box is more likely to later join a choral group or have a desire to learn an instrument. Most importantly, the Music Box child is one who grows with an indelible appreciation for the richness that music brings to life.

MUSIC BOX PREPARES A CHILD FOR THE CHALLENGES OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

Music Box is a personal experience that encourages learning at each child's individual pace. Along the way, critical developmental components are established such as listening and attention skills, inhibitory control, self-confidence, reading readiness, language development, creativity, self-motivation, physical coordination, social skills and cognitive reasoning. These components are at the heart of the Music Box curriculum and enrich the already wonderful combination of music and children and help to prepare them for elementary school.

MUSIC BOX BRINGS MUSICAL LEARNING INTO YOUR HOME.

It's a learning experience that begins in the classroom and extends its harmony into the home after the school day is over. Each semester, the children receive a music box in which they keep the CDs, songbooks, manipulatives and parent activity cards that go home every week. These materials involve parents in the wonder of their children's growth and self-discovery and create musical moments that build a lifetime of memories.

Music Box Goals

• To introduce children to the basic elements of music
• To enhance the development of listening skills and to provide listening experiences that encourage auditory discrimination and an expansion of listening repertoire
• To provide an opportunity for expanding a child’s movement repertoire, confidence and coordination
• To reinforce preschool concepts such as numbers, shapes, colour, letters, vocabulary, social & self awareness, self-esteem and diversity
• To provide young children with an opportunity for appropriate vocal exploration and development
• To enhance speech and language skills
• To invite cooperative participation in a group setting
• To begin to lay the foundation for involvement in musical ensemble

Class Highlights

• Three 10 week units available for 3-4 year olds; Three 10 week units available for 4-5 year olds.

• DiscoveryTime provides 3 BONUS classes each session, making the total length 13 weeks long.
